Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery

Gastric Bypass & Gastric Banding

No matter who you are, chances are you've had a struggle with your weight at some point. For some it's 10 pounds. For others 100. Regardless, we all want to be healthier and look it, too.

But losing weight is difficult; and for some, there comes a time when traditional diets and exercise may just not be enough. They need something that can jumpstart their weight loss — a tool to push their bodies into becoming healthier. More and more people are finding that tool is Bariatric Surgery.

Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgeons specialize in weight-loss surgery and have developed several different surgical procedures to help patients lose weight and maintain a healthy weight for a lifetime. These procedures are referred to as restrictive, malabsorptive or a combination of the two. Restrictive procedures limit the amount of food the stomach can hold. Malabsorptive procedures limit the number of calories and nutrients that can be absorbed.

Two weight loss operations are offered at the Martha Jefferson Bariatric Care Center. One is the Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass procedure. The other is the gastric banding procedure. Our experienced surgeons can assist patients in determining which surgery is best depending upon the patient's preference, goals and overall health.
